We are presently recruiting for an Analyst to support our corporate governance initiatives, including proxy voting and engagement.

CPP Investment Board is one of the largest and fastest growing institutional investors in the world.  Headquartered in Toronto, with offices in London and Hong Kong, the CPP Investment Board is governed and managed independently of the Canada Pension Plan by experienced and highly skilled investment professionals. Their job is to prudently invest CPP assets to help pay future pensions.

As an investor in more than 2900 companies around the world, we believe that responsible behaviour with respect to environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors enhances long-term shareholder value. One of the most effective measures we have at our disposal in the engagement process is proxy voting. Proxy voting allows us to engage with all public companies in our portfolio on matters concerning their long-term financial performance.

We are presently recruiting for an Analyst to support our corporate governance initiatives, including proxy voting and engagement. Working in the Public Market Investments department, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that proxy voting is completed in accordance with CPP Investment Board’s Proxy Voting and Principles and Guidelines (PVPG); assisting with the development and recommendation of positions in all areas of corporate governance and implementation of governance engagement plans.

Role Specific Accountabilities:

• Review and analyze all vote recommendations (aprox.18,000 items per year), conduct additional research, identify and escalate proposals as necessary with concise summaries and recommendations

• Assist with the annual update of the PVPG

• Monitor and provide timely analysis and summaries on developments regarding corporate governance and regulatory issues relating to Public Market Investments

• Conduct detailed research, develop positions on corporate governance issues and prepare first draft of response letter in respect of relevant requests for comments

• Assist with determination of focus areas, development and implementation of engagement plans

• Manage research for engagement, including conducting company specific research (currently focused on executive compensation)

• Develop and maintain relationships with the appropriate internal and external resources

• Work with the fundamental research team and GCM on the integration of governance factors into the investment process

• Provide issue expertise and information on governance activities to Communications and Stakeholder Relations and other teams within PMI

• Assist with internal and external reporting on proxy voting and governance engagements, including the annual report on responsible investing

If you possess the following, we’d like to hear from you:

• University Degree in business, finance, economics, library science or research

• Minimum 2 years experience with strong research and analytical skills

• Ability to read large volumes of material and prepare concise accurate summaries

• Experience in and knowledge of corporate governance and executive compensation would be an asset

• Self-motivated, flexible and adaptable

• Solid communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills

• Solid prioritization and organizational skills

• Demonstrated good judgment; professionalism and integrity

• Ability to work independently as well as to perform effectively in a team oriented environment

• Ability to work in a high performing culture, under pressure and with time-sensitive deadlines
